DFA asks Saudi OFWs to report unjust terminations

Filipino migrant workers in Saudi Arabia who get terminated from their jobs without a valid cause should get in touch with the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday.

The agency also advised OFWs in the Kingdom to regularly visit the Philippine Embassy website for updates on the Nitaqat or “Saudization" system, which prioritizes the employment of Saudi nationals over foreign workers in Saudi-owned firms.


Everybody should be prepared for unexpected circumstances like this the fact that we cannot do anything if the Saudi government implements new policies. Let us not depend in this country, let's find an alternative. Non-compliance is the fault of our companies, but we cannot blame them either for not employing Saudis due to their attitudes towards work. If this is not a good idea for expats much more with the investors for they are wasting their money paying Saudis for nothing.

In order to deal with this matter, the government of the Philippines must consider an alternative on how to provide jobs for these people, once they leave Saudi Arabia. First, they have work experience, and we're able to stand along with different races with different languages... a unique quality of a worker who can deal & work with others (wide range - human behavior). And second, these OFWs were able live their life with patience & kindness, which is also an important quality of being a worker.

We all know that our working capacity when we are at their kingdom is beyond all doubts much more advantage to them than to us, and yet they offer us an equivalent salary as of the laborers. They make standards in which our capacity is equal to the capacity of uneducated people. People who didn't even spent a single centavo in pursuing ducation. Unless we start our voice now. Stop Global Eploitation of Filipino workers!!!! We are not bunch of idiots not knowing the imbalance distribution of Global Wealth. We are not idiots not knowing the Global corruptions, monopolies and Cartels that is happening within this country. Coz we have seen it by our very own eyes and we have experienced it by our patience.

I hope, private and government sectors in our country will be able to deal with this matter. Let's have a hope, and be optimistic.
